All vendors must have a W9 on file for the Town of Friday Harbor to issue payment.
Accounts Payable Warrants
The Town of Friday Harbor utilizes the warrant system for any financial claim. A warrant is a written order authorizing payment from the Town's treasury. A warrant acts like a check and can be cashed or deposited like any other check. Warrants do not have an expiration date.
Accounts payable warrants are cut weekly on Thursdays and mailed within 24 hours of issuance. Invoices must be received the Friday prior to a warrant run to ensure inclusion in the next batch. All warrants are approved by the council within 30 days of issuance. Should the council not approve a warrant, the Finance Department is responsible for collection of the money due back to the Town.
Accounts Payable Deposits
The Town of Friday Harbor does not offer EFT/ACH payments for remittance.
Sales Tax
The Town of Friday Harbor is not sales tax exempt.
All sales tax for goods purchased or delivered within town limits should be reported under tax code 2801.
Effective July 1, 2025, the total local sales tax rate for the Town of Friday Harbor is 8.65%. This includes portions for the State (6.5%), County (1.85%), and Town (0.3%).
To confirm current sales rate, use the state Department of Revenue tax rate lookup. Input an address within the town limits (e.g., 60 Second Street, Friday Harbor).
Historical Tax Rates:
- April 1, 2025 through Jun 30, 2025: 8.8% - State (6.5%), County (2.0%), and Town (0.3%)
- April 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025: 8.7% - State (6.5%), County (1.9%), and Town (0.3%)
- January 1, 2024 through March 31, 2024: 8.6% - State (6.5%), County (1.9%), and Town (0.2%)
- January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023: 8.4% - State (6.5%), County (1.9%), and Town (0%)
- January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2022: 8.5% - State (6.5%), County (2.0%), and Town (0%)
- July 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020: 8.3% - State (6.5%), County (1.8%), and Town (0%)
- January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020: 8.1% - State (6.5%), County (1.6%), and Town (0%)
