PUBLIC NOTICETo: Press From: Amy Taylor, Town Clerk RE: Spring and Mullis Street intersection - Three-way stop and crosswalkDate: December 17, 2008 Thursday, December 4, 2008 the Town Council discussed the installation of a crosswalk and controlled stop at the intersection of Spring and Mullis Street. No action was taken. The discussion took place in an effort to respond to requests made to the Town to address pedestrian crossing concerns associated with the newly constructed assisted living facility, medical center, convalescent center and grocery store located in the area. The Town Council was presented with two design concepts. Design Concept A provides for the installation of a pedestrian bump-out, narrowing the street to one-lane west bound on Spring Street. Design Concept B maintains the existing travel lanes but does not increase pedestrian visibility or reduce the amount of pedestrian crossing time. Both designs involve the installation of a three-way stop and are consistent with the engineering analysis for the intersection. The Town Council will schedule further meetings in 2009 to consider the issue. Public comment is invited and may be submitted in writing to the Town Council’s email at towncouncil@fridayharbor.org or the Town Clerk at PO Box 219, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
