BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES: HISTORIC PRESERVATION REVIEW BOARD(updated 03.14.08) BACKGROUND & Mission In 1998, the Town of Friday Harbor (TFH) created a Historic Preservation Program and the Historic Preservation Review Board to serve in an advisory capacity to the Town Council. The Board considers and recommends measures and incentives that will encourage and foster preservation of historic structures, sites, or districts, and conducts design review for construction projects in the Historic District. The HPRB is assigned the following responsibilities:
BOARD MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS AND TERM LENGTH The Town of Friday Harbor Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) is a five-member volunteer board appointed by the Town Council. Members of the HPRB shall serve terms of two years. The Council shall appoint members with qualifications, skills or demonstrated experience and interest in one or more of the following categories: architecture/architectural history, historic preservation, landscape design, construction, planning, design review, historical research, real estate, and local history. A minimum of one member must be a Friday Harbor resident. Membership in the San Juan Historical Society is preferred, but not required. MEETINGS The HPRB meetings are held twice monthly, the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, at 7:00 pm, in the Town Council chambers, 60 Second Street. These meetings are open to the public.
