Town Burn Ban

The San Juan County Fire Marshal, in partnership with local Fire Districts, has declared a burn ban in the unincorporated areas of San Juan County. This is due to current and predicted dry weather conditions.

A similar ban is declared by the Town Fire Marshal within the Town of Friday Harbor limits.

The Town is reminding residents and visitors that outdoor burning is generally prohibited year-round within Town limits in accordance with State Law.  Friday Harbor Municipal Code Chapter 9.16 addresses current regulations and allowable activities.

A ban is in effect until further notice for the following activities:

  • Recreational fires using charcoal or firewood.
  • Outdoor cooking fires involving charcoal or firewood.
  • General use of charcoal, including at public facilities located in Sunken Park.
  • Tiki torches or similar products with an open flame.

The following activities are allowed with best practices followed.

  • Use of propane and liquid fueled outdoor appliances such as BBQs and fireplaces with water and/or fire extinguisher available.
  • Self-contained wood pellet grills such as Big Green Egg or Traeger.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe from fire.  For more information contact the Town at (360) 378 - 2810.
